De
reddede sig i land i Tuleár regionen, som er sydvest siden af Madagaskar.
The

not certain, but according to the legend there was a big ship - in the 15.
centery that went down outsite of Madagascar and the only survivers was a couple
of small dogs.
They saved them selves and went ashore in the Tulèar Region which is on the South West of Madagaskar. Another explanation is that the first europeans who made business on the South end of Madagascar, brought different Bichon breeds on which they crossed and bred.
On Madagascar this little dog became well known as wild bore hunting dogs and were very appreciated for their bracenes and their faithfulnes.
Coton De Tulèar is a clever little dog. On Madascar where crocodiles was a danger for the dogs - the dogs cheated the crocodiles by barking a little further down the stream - away from where they wanted to cross over
The Crocodiles who was lying waiting for the dogs - went after the sound of the barking - hoping to get some lunch - but they never was quick enought to catch the little dog.
There are still wild cotons on Madagascar but hey live under terrible cercumstances - and they do not look like the dogs we know from the standard.
